Land: From the Old English lond, “ground or soil, definite portion of the earth’s surface, home region to a group of people.”
Relief: From the Latin relevare, “to raise, to alleviate.” Also: the physical shape, configuration or unevenness of the Earth’s surface, considered by variation in height and slope or topographic irregularities.
LAND RELIEF: a weblog examining contemporary and historical issues in landscape architecture, urban design, environmental management, and community structure. Posts report on specific site visits, community action groups, vital design/managment methodology, and how to design for global citizenship.

CONTRIBUTORS:
Haley Loram is a 2008 graduate of Swarthmore College, where she focused her studies on how the public policy sausage gets made. She works full-time at the Community Design Collaborative, a Philadelphia community design center that works to break the language barrier between design professionals and local nonprofits in order to address the space needs of service providers and improve the quality of the built environment.Haley rides the Chinatown Bus like it’s her job and dedicates most of her free brain waves to freelance journalism and documentary photography.
Marshall ‘Lito’ Morales is an interdisciplinary landscape designer, artist, and activist committed to probing the questions of environment, space, and habitat in post-industrial and regenerative contexts. He is a 2008 graduate of Swarthmore College, and a recipient of the Luce Scholarship to study garden design in Japan through July 2009. His work spans community environmental design and dance/performance works in Ecuador, Australia, New Zealand, the American Pacific Northwest, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Blaine O’Neil is a current a student in the class of 2011 at Swarthmore College. He has been an active leader is environmental initiatives on and around campus, and focuses his interests on sustainable environmental design and architecture.
